Academic Affairs Leadership Update

Dear Colleagues,

After serving as Interim Deputy Provost since July 2024, Dr. Jeffrey Newcomer has returned to his role as Dean of the College of Aerospace, Computing, Engineering, and Design as of Monday, February 10.  During his time as Interim Deputy Provost, Jeff played a critical role in guiding Academic Affairs through a period of significant transition, with particular contributions in strategic budgeting and budget clarity. His leadership and insights have been invaluable, and I want to extend my sincere thanks for his service. Jeff may continue in an advisory capacity for a few months, and we will provide further updates as those details are finalized.

Relatedly, Dr. Steve Beaty will also conclude his service as Interim Dean of CACED and will return to his faculty role in the Department of Computer Sciences. As many of you know, Steve is a dedicated educator and scholar who answered the call to serve his college and our university when needed. His willingness to step into this role is deeply appreciated, and we are grateful for his leadership during this transition.

As we assess our evolving needs and to help ensure we are prepared for the budgetary challenges ahead, we have made the strategic decision to keep the Deputy Provost position vacant for the time being. This approach will allow us to carefully evaluate our academic leadership structure and ensure we are best aligned to support University priorities and positioned for the future.
